As part of a growing organization, Mr. Shanmugam Pillai in the year 1997 started to build a lodge of his own, “LALA LODGE”, situated at 5th street Gandhipurm. The construction of the lodge was completed in the year 2000. The lodge was inaugurated in September 2000. But unfortunately Mr. Shanmugam Pillai passed in October the same year. He left behind a legacy of deduction, hard work and humanism.

The legacy of Mr. Shanmugam Pillai is now being carried on by his son-in-law Mr. Mariappan Pillai. Mr. Mariappan Pillai was born on 25th November 1960 at Thoothukudi. Under the careful guidance of his Maternal Uncle and Father-in-Law Mr. Shanmugam Pillai, he learnt the nuances and skills of business and had become a great philanthropist like his Uncle. Mr. Mariappan Pillai donates funds to student’s education, medical expenses and other development activities of the society. He also provides rent, education and medical expenses to his employees and kith and kin. Under his able guidance, the younger brother of Mr. Mariappan Pillai, Mr. Anandha Natarjan runs Lala Sweets at three centers in Salem. Those who have worked at the main shop “Nellai Peria Lala Sweets, Gandhipuram” are being patronized by Mr. Mariappan Pillai start business of their own. By such means, there are about 50 branches of Peria Lala Sweets in different parts of the district. Mr. Mariappan Pillai has the personal to lend a helping hand to the needy, at the right time and at the right place.

Mr. Mariappan is actively involved in Literary Activities also. He funds the SAIVA PERUMAKKAL PERAVAI and is the Syndicate Member of the Governing Council of VETRI THAMZHIAR PERAVAI. This is the 25th year of Mr. Mariappan’s active service in Business and School Activities. Rightly called as the “SILVER JUBILEE YEAR”. At a time when the present world needs a lot of Humanism, Dedication and Selfless Service, it is heartening to see and realize the untiring efforts put forth by Mr. Mariappan. To honour his unending commitment to the society at large, the Rotary Club of Coimbatore honoured him with a special award in the year 2003.

To sum up, Mr. Mariappan is the epitome and a living example of Unending Hard work and Humanism, who through his intellect and wisdom has conquered thousands of hearts and minds and it is an example to millions of budding young Indians.
